UK Ranks Second-Worst For Mental Wellbeing After Uzbekistan

According to a recent report by Sapien Labs, a research organization, mental health is declining globally. The UK ranks as the second-least happy country, which has sparked concern.
Every year, Sapien Labs, questions over 400,000 people in 71 countries for their “Mental State of the World” survey. The findings indicate a lack of recovery from the initial mental health damage caused by the pandemic.

On a Mental Health Quotient (MHQ) scale that goes from -100 (extremely dissatisfied) to 200, the UK received a low score of 49. They were ranked slightly higher than Uzbekistan, the nation with the lowest score. Remarkably, 35% of British people said they felt “distressed.”

Remarkably, the study discovered a negative correlation between happiness and wealth, with wealthier countries scoring lower. The happiest places on earth are non-English speaking developing nations like Tanzania, Sri Lanka, and the Dominican Republic, which undoubtedly know how to enjoy life more than many developed nations do.

The countries with the lowest rankings on the list are Australia, Tajikistan, Brazil, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and Uzbekistan. Overall, North America and Europe did badly, pointing to a wider pattern.

The authors urge the UK to view this report as a call to action, even though some may use it to spread negativity. They highlight the good things, such as Glasgow’s excellent live music scene and London’s designation as Europe’s best city.
