Pop icon Madonna has voiced her criticism of the newly elected Donald Trump administration for its decision to remove protections for transgender people and end diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. She urged citizens to continue fighting for their rights, marking the latest push by Trump to reverse policies implemented by former president Joe Biden’s government that aimed to protect transgender individuals and their healthcare.
On Monday, Trump directed the Pentagon to conduct a review, which is expected to result in restrictions on transgender people’s ability to serve in the military.
Madonna, a long-time advocate for the LGBTQ community, shared her disappointment in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday. “It’s so sad to watch our new Government slowly dismantling all the Freedoms we have been fighting for and WON over the years. Don’t give up the Fight!” she wrote, accompanying her message with LGBTQ pride flags and broken red heart emojis.
Earlier, singer and actress Selena Gomez, whose father is of Mexican descent, expressed her emotional response to the Trump administration’s stance on deporting undocumented immigrants. In a now-deleted Instagram video, she tearfully said, “All my people are getting attacked … the children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry. I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.”
