Donald Trump has nominated Pam Bondi, former Florida Attorney General, as U.S. Attorney General after Matt Gaetz withdrew his candidacy.

Gaetz, a controversial pick, faced opposition from within the Republican Party and allegations of misconduct. He withdrew, citing concerns about being a distraction, amid speculation that his decision aimed to block the release of an ethics report detailing accusations against him.​

Pam Bondi, a Trump ally and experienced prosecutor, is known for her role in Trump’s 2020 impeachment defense and her strong advocacy for “America First” policies.

She has also chaired the America First Policy Institute, a think tank set up by former Trump administration staffers. Bondi, who is from Tampa, was Florida’s first woman attorney general and has 18 years of experience as a prosecutor.
