At a meeting on Saturday evening that brought together party MPs from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Sonia Gandhi is set to be re-elected as the head of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP).

“There would be a clamour for party leader Rahul Gandhi to assume the key role,” as reported by party insiders, “with Congress to decide the name of its leader in Lok Sabha.”

Wayanad and Raebareli Lok Sabha polls were won by Rahul Gandhi. According to the sources, party MPs Gaurav Gogoi, Manickam Tagore, and KC Venugopal are anticipated to raise their hands to make the demand.

It is also noteworthy that, in the event that the Congress party wins the required number of seats in the general elections, the leader of the party in the Lok Sabha would take on the post of Leader of the Opposition in the House.

The Congress’s constitution grants the Chairman of the Parliamentary Party the authority to designate the leaders of the party in each of the two Houses of Parliament.

Party insiders informed that Sonia Gandhi will have the last say over whether to designate Rahul Gandhi as the party’s Lok Sabha leader or to choose a different person. They stated that there is little hope for a decision on the matter and that she could decide to use a press release to make the announcement later.

Mallikarjun Kharge is the Leader of the Opposition in the upper house of parliament, while Sonia Gandhi is a member of the Rajya Sabha at the moment.

Before this, a meeting of the Congress Working Committee is also going to beb held, in which the party is expected to pat itself on the back for its performance in the Lok Sabha polls. Notably, Rahul Gandhi is being commended for hard work in the run up to these elections.
