RJD leader Tej Pratap Singh Yadav, during a Holi celebration with party supporters on Friday, ordered a uniformed police officer to dance to a song, threatening him with suspension if he refused.
“Ay sipahi, ek gaana bajayenge, uspe tumko thumka lagana hai (I will play a song, and you have to shake a leg),” Tej Pratap said, pointing at the officer. He added that if the officer didn’t comply, he could be suspended. “Bura na mano, Holi hai (Don’t feel bad, it’s Holi),” the former Bihar minister further stated. Tej Pratap, son of RJD leader Lalu Yadav, also took part in the controversial ‘kurta faad’ ritual, where people’s clothes are torn after being doused in colors. A video from the event shows his supporters forcibly tearing a man’s pants and pushing him to the ground, despite his protests.
The incident sparked strong reactions from the JDU, BJP, and even its ally Congress. JDU spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad condemned the act, stating that such behavior has no place in Bihar. The BJP remarked that the incident underscores the need to keep such individuals away from power.
“Jungle Raj may be over, but the ‘Yuvraj’ of Lalu Yadav is now threatening a police officer with consequences if he doesn’t follow his orders. Bihar has changed. Whether it’s Tejashwi Yadav, Tej Pratap Yadav, or any other member of the Lalu Yadav family, they must realize that such actions are no longer acceptable in this new Bihar,” Prasad told a news agency.
