The 17-year-old minor, allegedly involved in a fatal Porsche car crash that claimed the lives of two techies in Pune, has complied with the Juvenile Justice Board’s (JJB) bail conditions by submitting a 300-word essay on road safety. An official confirmed the submission was made on Wednesday.
The minor had been released from an observation home last month after the Bombay High Court ruled that his detention was illegal. The fatal accident occurred on May 19 in the city’s Kalyani Nagar area. According to the police, the teenager was driving a Porsche under the influence of alcohol when the vehicle collided with a two-wheeler, killing two software engineers.
Following the incident, the JJB had initially ordered that the minor be placed under the care and supervision of his parents and grandfather. As part of the bail conditions, the board also required the minor to write an essay on road safety.
The police, facing public outrage over the perceived leniency of the bail terms, petitioned the JJB for a revision of the order. Consequently, on May 22, the board directed that the minor be sent to an observation home.
However, the Bombay High Court intervened, declaring the orders remanding the teenager to the observation home illegal. The court emphasized the need for strict adherence to juvenile justice laws.
