In a chilling case from South Delhi’s Neb Sarai, police have arrested 20-year-old Arjun Kumar for the gruesome murder of his parents, Rajesh Kumar (51) and Komal (46), and his 23-year-old sister Kavita. The murders, carried out on the couple’s 27th wedding anniversary, were allegedly motivated by a long-standing grudge and property disputes.
Arjun, a second-year Delhi University student and trained boxer, initially claimed to have discovered the bodies upon returning from a morning walk. He had also alerted the police and called his uncle to report the killings. However, inconsistencies in his statements and CCTV footage showing no outside intrusion into the house led investigators to suspect him.
During interrogation, Arjun confessed to stabbing his family members in their sleep. Police revealed that he had planned the crime meticulously, choosing the anniversary as the date to carry out the murders. Investigations revealed that Arjun felt humiliated by his father, a retired serviceman, who had often scolded and disciplined him. Arjun was reportedly furious upon learning that the family property was to be left to his sister.
The bodies were discovered on Wednesday morning, with neighbors recalling the family celebrating the anniversary the night before. All three victims were found with their throats slit. Residents of the colony expressed shock and disbelief over the tragedy.
“This is unimaginable. Just yesterday, I saw the mother and daughter laughing together. Now, they’re gone,” said a neighbor, Himani.
The family, originally from Haryana, had moved to Delhi 15 years ago for better opportunities. Joint Commissioner of Police Sanjay Kumar Jain stated, “Arjun premeditated the murders, aiming to create an alibi by leaving for a morning walk.”
The case highlights the devastating consequences of unresolved familial conflicts and deep-seated grievances.
