Soldier Dead, Army Major Among 4 Injured During Encounter With Terrorists in Kupwara

In a tragic turn of events, a soldier lost his life, and an Army Major was among four personnel injured during an encounter with terrorists in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir early Saturday morning.

The skirmish erupted at a forward post in Kamkari, Macchal Sector, near the Line of Control (LoC). Defence officials confirmed that the intense gunfight led to the death of one terrorist, while a soldier succumbed to his injuries shortly after being wounded.

The confrontation was identified as a Border Action Team (BAT) action. BAT teams, typically consisting of Pakistan Army special forces and terrorists, launched an attack on an Indian Army bunker in the early hours. Following the attack, all five injured personnel were promptly evacuated to the hospital, with some requiring airlifting for urgent medical treatment.

Two intruders managed to retreat to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) amid the fierce exchange of fire that lasted several hours. The Indian Army has since mobilized multiple teams to the encounter site to neutralize the remaining threats. The operation is ongoing.

This incident follows a series of similar encounters in the region. On Wednesday, a joint operation by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kowut, Kupwara, resulted in the deaths of a soldier and a terrorist. The soldier, injured in the firefight, succumbed to his wounds shortly after.

Similarly, on Tuesday, another infiltration attempt by terrorists in the Battal sector was thwarted by the Army. Unfortunately, a soldier was injured during the exchange of fire and later passed away from his injuries.
