Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai Bans Torn Jeans and Skirts Under New Dress Code

Devotees visiting the renowned Shree Siddhivinayak Ganapati Temple in Mumbai will now have to adhere to a dress code, as per a new directive issued by the temple trust. The Shree Siddhivinayak Ganapati Temple Trust (SSGTT) has mandated that visitors wear decent and body-covering attire, preferably traditional Indian clothing.

Effective from next week, the temple authorities will prohibit devotees from wearing short skirts, torn or cut trousers, and other revealing outfits within the temple premises. The decision follows numerous complaints from visitors who expressed concerns about inappropriate attire that they felt was disrespectful in a place of worship.

“Devotees wearing trousers with cuts or torn fabric, short skirts, or clothing that exposes body parts will not be permitted inside the temple,” the official order stated.

The temple trust clarified that the dress code is being introduced to ensure that all devotees feel comfortable during their visit while maintaining the sanctity and decorum of the temple. “After receiving repeated requests, the temple trust decided to implement the dress code to preserve the sanctity of the temple,” an official from the trust stated.

The Siddhivinayak Temple, dedicated to Lord Ganesha, is one of the most visited religious sites in Mumbai, attracting thousands of devotees daily, including celebrities and politicians. The new rule aims to uphold traditional values and maintain a respectful environment for all worshippers.

Authorities have urged devotees to cooperate with the new guidelines to ensure a smooth and spiritually enriching experience for everyone at the temple.
