Seeking help from Internet, Mumbai comedian gets back money from ex-landlord after police intervention

A comedian from Mumbai is requesting help after his former landlord refused to return his security deposit in a post that went viral on X (formerly Twitter).

Kashyap Swaroop shared screenshots of his repeated requests and reminders to the landlord on ‘X’ .

Swaroop, in one post, said, “My landlord asked me to vacate my home before termination of lock-in period. He has yet to refund 60% of my security deposit despite me vacating the house in excellent condition. Are there any lawyers who can help recover the rest? He is avoiding my calls and messages.”

Swaroop reminded the landlord about the refund many times and, clearly irritated, even threatened to take legal action if needed.

In response, the landlord said, “Please do what you have to do. Swaroop shared it with the comment, “Landlords are on a massive ego trip,” after receiving a thank you message. I would appreciate any assistance, please, along with the landlord’s “X” handle.

There are over 7 lakh views on the post and numerous advice-giving comments.

“Went to the cops. They called up the douche in question. Asked him to come to the police station to explain his side of the story. He immediately insisted he’d transferred the deposit. My bank statement showed he didn’t. An hour later, I had it,” he said.

He later expressed gratitude and wrote, “Thanks to everyone who helped, shared their experiences, and gave me some solace here. Of course, this story has a much longer backstory (lack of awareness around EVs, unethical CCTV monitoring, intimidation), but I got some closure.”
