Schools In Delhi-NCR Directed To Go For Hybrid Mode Due To ‘Very Poor’ AQI

Schools in Delhi-NCR have been directed to switch to a hybrid mode of teaching for students up to Class 12 due to rising air pollution levels. The air quality in the region has deteriorated to the “very poor” category, prompting authorities to implement measures to protect students’ health. The hybrid model will allow students the flexibility to attend classes either online or in person.

The decision comes as air pollution in Delhi and its surrounding areas continues to remain a major concern. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) consistently hovering in the “very poor” range. Such conditions pose significant health risks, particularly to children and vulnerable groups.

According to the directive, schools have been advised to suspend all outdoor activities, including sports and assemblies, to minimize students’ exposure to polluted air. Parents have also been urged to ensure their children wear masks if stepping outdoors and to avoid unnecessary travel during peak pollution hours.

The Delhi government has also initiated several measures to curb pollution, including restrictions on construction activities, the deployment of anti-smog guns, and promoting the use of public transport. Despite these efforts, the air quality remains critical, especially during the winter months when stubble burning and weather conditions exacerbate pollution levels.

Education officials emphasized the importance of continuity in learning despite the challenges posed by pollution. “The hybrid mode ensures that students can continue their education safely without compromising their health,” an official stated.

Parents and schools have welcomed the decision, expressing relief over the flexible approach. However, concerns remain about the effectiveness of long-term pollution control measures. Authorities have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to address the pollution crisis while ensuring the safety and well-being of children.
