Saif Ali Khan Attacker Linked to Diamond Ring Theft at Mumbai Pub

Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir, the man accused of attacking Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, was previously involved in a theft case, police investigations have revealed. The accused, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi national, was arrested on January 16 from Thane city, a neighboring area of Mumbai.

According to officials, Shehzad had worked at a restaurant and pub in Worli through a contractor, where he allegedly stole a diamond ring belonging to a customer in August last year. Following the incident, the ring’s owner lodged a police complaint, and CCTV footage implicated Shehzad. The theft led to his termination from the job.

The recent attack occurred at Saif Ali Khan’s Bandra residence in the early hours of January 16. Preliminary investigations suggest Shehzad intended to commit theft when he sneaked into the actor’s apartment. Police reports indicate that he climbed a duct to reach the 12th floor of the building where Saif Ali Khan resides with his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their children. He entered the apartment through a bathroom window.

Once inside, Shehzad was spotted by the actor’s staff. A confrontation ensued, culminating in Shehzad stabbing the 54-year-old actor multiple times. Saif Ali Khan underwent a five-hour surgery at Lilavati Hospital and is reportedly in stable condition.

Police have taken Shehzad into custody for five days and plan to recreate the crime scene at the Bandra residence as part of their ongoing investigation. An official stated, “The accused will be taken to the crime scene to aid in understanding the sequence of events.”
