Rohit Sharma To Lead India At 2024 T20 World Cup: Jay Shah

Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, India will compete in the T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in the Caribbean and the USA, BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced on Wednesday at a Rajkot event. In the shortest format, India’s full-time captain has been Hardik Pandya; however, following their devastating defeat to Australia in the 2023 World Cup final, there are rumblings that senior batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit will return for the T20 championship in June.

“In 2023 (final) at Ahmedabad, even though we did not win the World Cup after 10 straight wins, we won hearts. I want to promise you that in 2024 (T20 World Cup) in Barbados (venue for the final), under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, ham Bharat ka jhanda gaadenge (we will hoist the Indian flag),” Shah said at the end of his speech.

Meanwhile, The Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium was on Wednesday renamed after veteran cricket administrator and former first-class cricketer Niranjan Shah. Gavaskar acknowledged that Niranjan Shah was instrumental in helping Saurashtra, the current two-time Ranji champions, turn around their fortunes.

Niranjan Shah, a former BCCI secretary, played 12 first-class matches between 1965 and 1975.
