A dispute over a near-collision between a bike and a scooty escalated tragically in Delhi on Wednesday, resulting in the fatal shooting of a 30-year-old woman. The incident, which occurred near the Gokalpuri flyover, involved Heera Singh, his wife Simranjeet Kaur, and their two young sons, aged four and twelve.
The Incident
Heera Singh was traveling to Maujpur in northeast Delhi with his family on a motorcycle when his bike nearly brushed against a scooty. An argument ensued between Mr. Singh and the man on the scooty. As the confrontation escalated, both parties exchanged heated words.
While Mr. Singh took the road beside the flyover, the man on the scooty ascended the flyover, continuing the verbal spat from above. According to Mr. Singh, the man on the scooty then fired a single round from atop the flyover, a distance of approximately 35 feet. The bullet struck Simranjeet Kaur in the suprasternal notch, the area where the neck meets the chest.
Immediate Aftermath
Mr. Singh rushed his injured wife to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, where she was declared brought dead upon arrival. The shooting not only claimed Simranjeet Kaur’s life but also endangered their two young children, who were with them at the time of the incident.
Police Investigation
“A case of murder is being registered and CCTV footage in the area is being scanned so we can identify and arrest the accused. Further investigation is on,” said a police official. The police are actively reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity to track down the perpetrator and bring him to justice.
The shocking nature of the crime, committed in broad daylight and with utter disregard for the safety of young children, has left the local community in shock. The police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward as they continue their investigation into this tragic case of road rage.
