The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) received its second bomb threat in less than a month, this time delivered via an email written in Russian. The threatening email was reportedly sent to the bank’s official website, prompting the Mumbai Police to launch an investigation and register a case against an unidentified individual.

The complaint was filed at the Mata Ramabai Ambedkar (MRA) Marg police station, and the case is being handled by Zone 1 officers. Speaking on the matter, Zone 1 DCP stated, “A threatening email was received on the official website of the Reserve Bank of India. The email, written in Russian, warned of an intention to blow up the bank. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.”

Authorities are currently probing whether the sender utilized a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to obscure their IP address and location. The cybercrime division is expected to play a significant role in tracing the origins of the email.

The threat comes shortly after Sanjay Malhotra assumed charge as the 26th Governor of the RBI, succeeding Shaktikanta Das, who stepped down after six years of service. Malhotra, an IAS officer from the Rajasthan cadre, was appointed by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a related development, six schools in Delhi also received bomb threats via email on Friday morning, leading to a coordinated search of the premises by multiple agencies. This follows an earlier incident on December 9, when at least 44 schools in Delhi received similar threats, which were later deemed hoaxes by the police.

Investigations into both incidents are ongoing, with authorities working to identify and apprehend those responsible for the threatening communications. The RBI and Mumbai Police have yet to release further updates on the case.
