Rahul Gandhi Promises Legal Guarantee of MSP, Slams BJP Government During ‘Kisan Nyay Panchayat’

In a gathering of farmers known as the ‘Kisan Nyay Panchayat’ held in Bihar’s Rohtas, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made significant promises to address the longstanding demands of farmers in India if the INDIA bloc comes to power after the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Gandhi assured the farmers that his party would provide a legal guarantee to the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of crops, addressing a key concern among cultivators who often face challenges in securing remunerative prices for their produce. He emphasized the Congress party’s track record of responding to farmers’ demands, highlighting instances such as loan waivers and MSP protection.

The announcement comes amidst ongoing protests by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), a farmers’ body, which recently called for a ‘Bharat Bandh’ to press the BJP-led central government to accept demands including a legal guarantee of MSP.

Gandhi took the opportunity to criticize the BJP-led central government, alleging diversion of funds from the defence budget to benefit certain industrialists. He also raised concerns about the “Agniveer” scheme, accusing the government of creating disparities within the army and questioning the treatment of injured or martyred personnel under this categorization.

Accompanied by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, Gandhi embarked on his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’, which resumed from the RJD’s district office in Sasaram. The yatra, spanning 6,713 km across 15 states, aims to connect with people and address various issues. The leaders were seen driving through crowds, with enthusiastic locals lining the roads to catch a glimpse of the procession. This yatra is scheduled to culminate in Mumbai on March 20.
