Actor Raghu Ram recently appeared before the Maharashtra Cyber Department as part of an investigation into controversial comments made by podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia on a YouTube show hosted by comedian Samay Raina.
Allahbadia, also known by his online persona “BeerBiceps,” sparked widespread outrage after making an inappropriate remark about parents and sex during an episode of the now-deleted show India’s Got Latent. The episode, which also featured content creators such as Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Mukhija (known as “The Rebel Kid” on Instagram), included the disturbing question: “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?”
Following the backlash, Allahbadia apologized, attributing his comments to a lapse in judgment.
Raghu Ram, who was a judge on one of the episodes, reportedly told the cyber cell that Samay Raina should have edited out the offensive language used during the show. He also admitted to regretting his use of swear words, stating that he got caught up in the moment but never intended to hurt anyone’s feelings.
Ram is among at least 50 individuals who have been summoned to provide statements. The Mumbai Police have questioned several people, including Apoorva Mukhija, Ashish Chanchlani, Allahbadia’s manager, and the video editor of India’s Got Latent, based on a complaint filed by a BJP leader. However, the police have not yet filed a formal case.
Samay Raina has also been summoned by both the Mumbai Police and the Maharashtra Cyber Department, which is conducting its own independent investigation. Although he was asked to appear within five days, Raina requested more time as he is currently in the United States.
