From humble beginnings in Satara, where he completed his primary education, to earning multiple degrees in economics, law, and political science from prestigious institutions like Columbia University and the London School of Economics (LSE), Ambedkar’s journey is a testament to resilience and intellectual brilliance.
Among his milestones are a BA from Bombay University, an MA and PhD from Columbia, and advanced degrees, including an MSc and DSc, from LSE. Additionally, he was called to the bar at Grey’s Inn in London, becoming a barrister. During a Constitution Day debate in Parliament, Union Home Minister Amit Shah made remarks perceived by the opposition as dismissive of Ambedkar’s legacy. Shah’s comment, likening frequent mentions of Ambedkar to a “fashion” and suggesting that invoking God’s name instead would secure heaven, drew sharp criticism.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi led the opposition’s charge, demanding an apology and calling Shah’s remarks an insult to both Ambedkar and the Constitution. Gandhi accused the BJP of undermining Ambedkar’s contributions and ideology, stating, “They are against the Constitution… The whole country knows.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP leaders defended Shah, asserting that his comments highlighted the opposition’s “anti-Ambedkar” history. Modi described the backlash as “theatrics,” emphasizing that Shah had exposed the opposition’s alleged disregard for Ambedkar’s legacy.
