Poonam Dhillon Recalls Early Memories of Salman Khan: ‘Never Thought He Would Be Such a Big Star’

Veteran actress Poonam Dhillon, a celebrated name from Bollywood’s golden era, has shared fond memories of her journey in the film industry, from working alongside legendary actors to forming lasting friendships.

During the filming of Laila, where she played Sunil Dutt’s daughter, Poonam enjoyed working with the veteran actor. She recalls a lighthearted moment when she jokingly told him, “If you were younger, I would have probably wanted to marry you.”

Poonam formed deep bonds with many in the industry, including Rekha, whom she describes as “very affectionate” and someone she adores. Another close friendship blossomed with Padmini Kolhapure during the making of Street Singer, where they spent time chatting and laughing between takes. This film also marked her last collaboration with Sanjay Dutt before he took a break from films due to legal troubles. She recalls how Sanjay’s striking presence always turned heads whenever he entered a room.

Reflecting on her early encounters with Salman Khan, Poonam revealed that she frequently saw him as a young boy at the home of screenwriting duo Salim-Javed. “He was a few years younger than me, and I never imagined he would become such a huge star. But he was always very good-looking,” she reminisced.

Years later, when Maine Pyar Kiya hit the screens, Poonam, who was married by then, couldn’t help but admire Salman’s charm. She playfully nudged her husband, Ashok Thakeria, saying, “Look how cute he is!” Even today, she acknowledges his massive fan following and enduring charisma, proving that some crushes never fade.

Poonam Dhillon rose to fame with her debut film Trishul (1978) and delivered hits like Noorie (1979) and Rajput (1982), cementing her status as a beloved Bollywood star.
