PM Modi’s Advice On Good Conduct To NDA MPs After Uproar Over Rahul Gandhi’s Comments

A day after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s fiery speech caused a massive uproar in the Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed MPs of the ruling NDA, urging them to adhere to parliamentary rules and exhibit exemplary conduct on the House floor.

This morning, the Prime Minister spoke at the NDA parliamentary party meeting, which was attended by top BJP leaders and ministers. This marked his first address to NDA MPs since assuming office for a third consecutive term. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, speaking to the media after the meeting, said that NDA MPs congratulated the Prime Minister on his third term and assured him of their unwavering support.

“The Prime Minister delivered an important message. He emphasized that all MPs are in Parliament to serve the nation and asked NDA MPs to prioritize this duty. He also guided us on appropriate conduct within the House,” Mr. Rijiju stated.

Mr. Rijiju further explained that the Prime Minister instructed MPs to follow rules when raising issues of both constituency and national importance. “He asked us to maintain the system of parliamentary democracy and ensure our behavior is exemplary. He stressed following parliamentary traditions,” Mr. Rijiju added, noting that all NDA MPs will adhere to the Prime Minister’s guidance.

“Yesterday, the way Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi behaved, turning his back towards the Speaker and even insulting him, is something we must avoid. This serves as our lesson,” Mr. Rijiju remarked.

When asked if Mr. Gandhi’s remarks and the subsequent ruckus in the Lok Sabha were discussed in today’s meeting, Mr. Rijiju responded negatively. “This meeting was not about that; it was to boost coordination among us.” He also mentioned that the Prime Minister would be responding to the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address in the Lok Sabha later today.

Mr. Gandhi, in his new role as Leader of the Opposition, delivered a scathing critique of the BJP yesterday, accusing the ruling party of attacking the Constitution and misusing probe agencies for political gain. His remarks, several portions of which were later expunged, triggered loud protests from the treasury benches, prompting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene twice. While BJP leaders accused Mr. Gandhi of insulting Hindus, the Congress clarified that his remarks were aimed at the BJP and its ideological mentor, the RSS.
