PM Modi, President Trump’s Meeting On February 13

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump are set to meet on February 13 in Washington, according to officials. This comes shortly after India’s Ministry of External Affairs revealed that talks were underway for the Prime Minister’s early visit to the U.S.

This will be PM Modi’s first bilateral visit to the U.S. since Trump’s second inauguration. The Prime Minister will be one of the few foreign leaders to visit Washington so soon after Trump’s swearing-in. As per the current schedule, PM Modi will head to Washington, D.C. after wrapping up a two-day visit to Paris, officials confirmed.

On Friday, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal mentioned that India and the U.S. were working on arranging the Prime Minister’s visit to strengthen the bilateral relationship. However, he clarified that the exact dates were still being finalized.

Following Trump’s inauguration on January 20, PM Modi and the U.S. President spoke over the phone on January 27. Both leaders expressed their commitment to fostering a “trusted” partnership with a focus on enhancing cooperation in trade, energy, and defense.

“The two sides are working on an early visit of PM Modi to the U.S. to further deepen the India-U.S. Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership,” Jaiswal said. Reports earlier indicated that both countries were aiming for a window between February 12-14 for the Prime Minister’s visit.

India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar represented the country at Trump’s inauguration, carrying a letter from Prime Minister Modi to the new U.S. President.
