PM Modi Discusses ‘New Dawn’ in J&K Post Article 370 in Newsweek Interview: ‘See It to Believe It’

In an exclusive interview with Newsweek, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the significant transformations taking place in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370. Modi stated that the region is experiencing a wave of development, good governance, and empowerment, urging individuals to witness these changes firsthand rather than relying solely on accounts from him or others.

Highlighting the newfound hope among the people of the union territory, Modi pointed out the decline in terror incidents and the resurgence of tourism, with over 21 million visitors in 2023. He emphasized the shift towards a digital economy, startups, and innovation, fostering an environment of progress and opportunity.

Moreover, Modi emphasized the positive impact on Kashmiri women and youth, noting the equal rights afforded to women in property matters. He described the changes as a “new dawn” for Kashmiri society.

Addressing concerns over the Indo-China border dispute, Modi stressed the importance of addressing the abnormality in bilateral ties, highlighting the significance of stable and peaceful relations between the two countries for the region and the world.

Regarding India’s relations with Pakistan, Modi extended congratulations to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif while refraining from commenting on internal matters, including the imprisonment of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. He reiterated India’s commitment to advancing peace, security, and prosperity in the region.

Reflecting on the recent inauguration of the Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir in Ayodhya, Modi described it as a historic moment of unity for the nation, representing centuries of perseverance and sacrifice. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent the aspirations of 1.4 billion Indians during the ceremony.

As the Modi-led BJP government prepares for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Modi expressed confidence in the government’s increasing popularity, contrasting India’s situation with the global trend of discontentment toward governments.

Responding to claims of diminishing media freedom, Modi dismissed them as “dubious,” attributing them to individuals disconnected from the sentiments and aspirations of the Indian populace.
