PM Modi Asserts Crackdown on Corruption, Says Only 3% of Graft Cases Under ED Involve Politicians

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to combatting corruption, stating that only 3% of corruption cases investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) involve individuals associated with politics. PM Modi’s remarks come amidst escalating accusations from opposition parties, alleging the misuse of central probe agencies by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to target political opponents, particularly during election seasons.

In a recent interview to a national daily, PM Modi highlighted that the remaining 97% of corruption cases are linked to officials and criminals, emphasizing his government’s comprehensive approach to tackling corruption at all levels. He pointed out that actions against corruption would intensify in his third term as Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister cited significant achievements in combating corruption, including the seizure of assets worth thousands of crores belonging to corrupt bureaucrats, criminals involved in illicit funding, and drug dealers. He contrasted the actions taken under his government with the previous administration, noting a substantial increase in the seizure of assets and cash by the ED since 2014.

PM Modi lamented the detrimental impact of corruption on the country, highlighting the missed opportunities for development and welfare schemes for the poor due to misappropriation of funds. He assured the public of continued vigilance and action against those involved in corrupt practices, emphasizing the importance of accountability and integrity in governance. The Prime Minister’s remarks come amidst a charged political atmosphere, with opposition parties criticizing the BJP for alleged misuse of power. However, PM Modi’s assertion of a focused crackdown on corruption aims to reassure the public of his government’s commitment to transparency and accountability in governance
