On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated two significant urban redevelopment projects: the World Trade Centre at Nauroji Nagar, and the GPRA Type-II Quarters at Sarojini Nagar, along with the CBSE’s Integrated Office Complex in Dwarka. He also laid the foundation stone for Veer Savarkar College at Roshanpura, Najafgarh.
In addition, the Prime Minister visited Swabhiman Apartments in Ashok Vihar, Delhi, to inspect newly constructed flats for residents of Jhuggi Jhopri (JJ) clusters, part of the In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation Project. Afterward, he handed over the keys to the beneficiaries of the flats. Addressing a public gathering at Ashok Vihar’s Ramlila Ground, PM Modi stated, “Today, India has become a symbol of political and economic stability. Our role on the global stage will grow even stronger in 2025. This year will mark a significant step toward positioning India as one of the world’s largest manufacturing hubs.”
Reflecting on his past, PM Modi shared, “Being here today brings back many memories. When the country was fighting against Indira Gandhi’s dictatorship, Ashok Vihar was a place where I lived during the underground movement.”
PM Modi also spoke about his commitment to the welfare of the poor, saying, “The country knows that I never built a house for myself, but I have built over four crore homes for the underprivileged.”
Regarding the inauguration of the new college in Najafgarh, named after Veer Savarkar, PM Modi criticized the Delhi government, saying, “The past 10 years have seen the education system in Delhi deteriorate under those in power. Despite the central government allocating significant funds for education in Delhi, the current government has failed to utilize even half of that money.” He also took aim at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, remarking, “I could have built a palace of mirrors, but instead, I have focused on initiatives like the New Education Policy, which were never addressed after Independence, until now.”
The Prime Minister further criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), claiming, “In the past decade, Delhi has been surrounded by a ‘disaster’ led by the AAP. By promoting individuals like Anna Hazare, a group of ‘dishonest’ people have steered Delhi toward chaos.” He added, “The people of Delhi have waged a battle against this disaster, and they are determined to free the city from it. Every voter in Delhi is saying, ‘We won’t tolerate this disaster, and we will change it.’”
PM Modi also pointed out the state of the Yamuna River, saying, “The AAP’s shamelessness is evident in their statement that cleaning the Yamuna won’t bring votes. Will they leave the river polluted just because it doesn’t yield votes?” He further accused the AAP of handing over the lives of Delhi’s residents to the “tanker mafia.”
In response, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal sharply criticized PM Modi’s remarks, stating, “Our work is not a disaster, but a blessing from the people.”
Announcing the day’s events, PM Modi described it as an important milestone for Delhi’s development, emphasizing the city’s growing reputation as a hub for education. In a series of posts on X, he stated, “Today is significant for Delhi’s development. At a programme in Ashok Vihar, I will be inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for various projects aimed at enhancing ‘Ease of Living’ for Delhi’s residents.”
He concluded, “A home is where dreams take root, and we are dedicated to providing every Indian with proper housing. Today, 1,675 newly constructed flats under the In-Situ Slum Rehabilitation Project will be inaugurated, ensuring better and healthier living conditions for many. I look forward to handing over the keys to some of the beneficiaries.”
