Pestering Wife for Canada Entry, Ludhiana Man Allegedly Kills Her a Week After Arrival

In a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, Jagpreet Singh, a resident of Ludhiana, Punjab, stands accused of fatally stabbing his wife, Balwinder Kaur (41), in Abbotsford, Canada. The incident occurred last week on March 15, prompting swift police response and subsequent charges against the accused.

According to reports by the Indian Express, Jagpreet Singh allegedly committed the heinous act just a week after arriving in Canada. Disturbingly, he reportedly called Balwinder’s family to inform them of the attack, adding to the chilling nature of the crime. Sources close to the deceased revealed that Jagpreet had been pressuring Balwinder to arrange his travel to Canada, and tensions had escalated between the couple due to financial troubles exacerbated by his unemployment.

Rajwinder Kaur, Balwinder’s sister, recounted Jagpreet’s alarming video call to his mother, where he callously stated, “I have put her to sleep forever.” She also emphasized the accused’s obsession with reaching Canada, painting a picture of a troubled relationship marred by mounting stress.

However, conflicting accounts surfaced, with Jaspreet Singh, the accused’s younger brother, claiming the couple had returned from shopping just hours before the tragedy and that Jagpreet had contacted their mother, pleading for forgiveness, insisting that the stabbing was unintentional.

Nevertheless, reports from Canada-based CBC News shed light on the grim reality of the situation. Abbotsford police responded to reports of an assault in progress at the couple’s home, where they found Balwinder Kaur with life-threatening stab wounds. Despite efforts by first responders, Balwinder succumbed to her injuries. Jagpreet Singh was promptly arrested on the scene and charged with second-degree murder.

Balwinder and Jagpreet had been married since 2000 and were parents to two children, Harnoorpreet Kaur (22) and Gurnoor Singh (18). Their daughter, Harnoorpreet, had been residing in Canada for four years on a study visa, while Balwinder had joined her two years ago to support her during a period of medical issues. Rajwinder Kaur lamented that Balwinder had been shouldering all expenses alone.
