One Killed, 6 Injured As Part Of A Roof Collapses At Delhi airport’s T-1

Early on Friday, in the midst of intense rain, a section of the roof of Delhi airport’s Terminal 1 collapsed on cars, including taxis. This resulted in one fatality and six injuries, according to officials. Flight departures were also suspended.

Hospitalization of the injured was announced by K Rammohan Naidu, Minister of Civil Aviation, who said he was keeping an eye on the situation.

Three fire tenders were dispatched to Terminal 1 of the airport, according to Delhi Fire Services officials, as soon as a call regarding the incident was received at approximately 5:30 am.

In addition to the roof sheet, the support beams gave way, causing damage to the vehicles parked in the terminal’s pick-up and drop zone. They said that a search was carried out to make sure that nobody was stranded inside the damaged cars.

The injured individuals have been admitted to the airport-proximate Medanta Hospital. They added that one of the six injured had been saved from a car that had an iron beam fall on it.

The debris was being cleared, and work was in progress. Four vehicles were damaged when the shed outside Indira Gandhi International Airport’s Terminal 1, which stretched from departure gate no. 1 to gate no. 2, collapsed at around five in the morning due to heavy rains, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police Usha Rangnani.

Six persons were hurt in the incident, and one person died. She said that every injured person is stable.

According to the DCP, teams from the Delhi Police, DFS, National Disaster Response Force, and Central Industrial Security Force are on the scene.

K Rammohan Naidu, the minister of civil aviation, wrote on X, “I’m personally keeping an eye on the roof collapse incident at T1 Delhi Airport. On the scene are first responders at work. Additionally, the airlines were instructed to help all impacted passengers at T1.

“The injured have been flown to a medical facility. Rescue efforts are still in progress,” he stated.

Sources claim that the airport operator is looking to temporarily move operations to T2 and T3, and that flight departures at T1, which only handles domestic flight operations, have been suspended until 2:00 pm.

Not long after the incident with the roof collapse, the flight departures were stopped. According to them, travelers who had already entered the terminal boarded their aircraft.

“A portion of the canopy at the old departure forecourt of the Delhi airport’s Terminal-1 collapsed around 5 am due to heavy rain since early this morning,” a spokesperson for Delhi International Airport Limited stated in a statement. There have been reports of injuries, and emergency workers are attempting to offer those impacted all required support, including medical attention.”
