On Women’s Day, PM Modi announces LPG cylinder price cut by Rs 100

In honor of International Women’s Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared on Friday that the cost of cooking gas cylinders would drop by Rs 100.

According to a post he made on X, this will greatly lessen the financial burden on millions of households nationwide, particularly helping “Nari Shakti” (women power).

By lowering the cost of cooking gas, we also hope to promote family happiness and maintain a cleaner environment. This is consistent with our dedication to giving women more power and guaranteeing their “Ease of Living,” he remarked.

In a related move, the government on Thursday declared that the Ujjwala Yojana would continue to provide impoverished women with a subsidy of Rs 300 per LPG cylinder beginning on April 1 of the following fiscal year.

The government in October last year hiked the subsidy from Rs 200 per 14.2-kg cylinders for up to 12 refills per year to Rs 300 per bottle. The Rs 300 per cylinder subsidy was for the current fiscal, which ends on March 31.

With this price reduction, the standard 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder would cost Rs 803 in Delhi, Rs 802.50 in Mumbai, Rs 829 in Kolkata, and Rs 818.50 in Chennai. The price reduction announcement comes a day after the Union Cabinet approved the continuation of the PMUY subsidy of Rs 300 per cylinder for the financial year 2024-25 (FY25) at an estimated cost of Rs 12,000 crore.
