Now, pay via UPI in Sri Lanka, Mauritius also

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Ranil Wickremesinghe of Sri Lanka, and Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth of Mauritius jointly launched the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services in their respective nations. Additionally, they watched virtually as RuPay card services were introduced in Mauritius.

PM Modi said that this was a unique day for the three cordial nations and evidence of their governments’ dedication to the advancement and welfare of their citizens.

He hoped that cross-border connections and transactions would be further strengthened by fintech connectivity. According to Jugnauth, the co-branded RuPay card will be classified as a domestic card in Mauritius and will be of great assistance to the nationals of both nations.

Wickremesinghe also congratulated PM Modi on the Ram Mandir’s dedication.

The changes that digital public infrastructure brought about in India were extensively discussed by PM Modi.

“Technology use is reducing corruption and promoting transparency,” he stated.

“I have no doubt that Indian travelers will prioritize locations that accept UPI,” he continued. Already signed up for the RuPay card, which is being introduced in Mauritius, are Nepal, Bhutan, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates.
