‘Not Scripted’: India’s Got Latent Contestants’ Apoorva Mukhija, Ashish Chanchlani Tell Police

The controversy surrounding YouTuber Samay Raina’s show ‘India’s Got Latent’ has intensified after the Mumbai Police recorded statements from content creators Apoorva Mukhija, also known as ‘Rebel Kid,’ and Ashish Chanchlani. The row erupted over a controversial remark made by podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia during an episode of the show, leading to widespread outrage and multiple police complaints.

According to police sources, Mukhija and Chanchlani stated that ‘India’s Got Latent’ is an unscripted show where panellists and contestants are encouraged to converse openly. They also informed authorities that judges do not receive monetary compensation for their participation but are permitted to share content from the show on their social media platforms. Additionally, they clarified that contestants must purchase tickets to participate, and the revenue generated from ticket sales is awarded to the winner of the show.

The controversy began when a video featuring Allahbadia’s contentious remark on ‘parental sex’ went viral. In the clip, the influencer was heard asking a contestant, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?” The comment sparked severe backlash, prompting intervention from the Information & Broadcasting Ministry and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). Following the public outcry, the video was taken down from YouTube.

Authorities have since registered an FIR against over 30 individuals for promoting vulgar content. The Mumbai Police have summoned both Allahbadia and Raina for questioning, with Raina’s advocate’s request for more time being denied. The Maharashtra Cyber Cell has also directed YouTube to remove all episodes of ‘India’s Got Latent’ containing obscene material.

In a further escalation, Mumbai Police have now summoned several celebrities, including Siddhant Chaturvedi, Uorfi Javed, Tanmay Bhat, Rakhi Sawant, and Deepak Kalal, in connection with the case. According to sources, Khar Police recorded Ashish Chanchlani’s statement earlier today.

Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has also intervened, summoning Allahbadia and Raina over the controversy. The commission stated that the remarks “have sparked widespread public outrage” and “violate the dignity and respect owed to every individual, particularly in a society that upholds equality and mutual respect.”

With investigations ongoing and the controversy showing no signs of abating, all eyes are now on the next developments in the ‘India’s Got Latent’ case.
