No Word On Delhi CM Yet, Oath-Taking Ceremony Tomorrow

The BJP, after ending a 27-year drought in Delhi, is set to resolve the uncertainty surrounding the new Chief Minister as the party holds a crucial legislative party meeting today. The suspense will soon be over, as the newly-elected MLAs will finalize the name of their leader, who will then stake a claim to power before the Lt Governor. This comes 11 days after the BJP’s remarkable win, which saw the party trounce the AAP, securing 48 out of 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly.

The BJP’s Parliamentary Board, the party’s highest decision-making body, will meet at noon to decide who will observe the legislative meeting, where the CM will be chosen. Although there had been delays due to Prime Minister Modi’s international trips, the time has finally come to make the announcement. Notable names being discussed for the role include Parvesh Verma, who made headlines for defeating Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency, as well as former Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta, Rekha Gupta, Ashish Sood, and others.

Preparations for the swearing-in ceremony, which is set to take place at Ramlila Maidan, are also nearly complete. The stage is set for a grand event, where PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Lt Governor VK Saxena will preside over the ceremony. The occasion promises to be a major political spectacle, with a detailed seating arrangement that includes space for religious leaders, MPs, MLAs, and even film stars.

However, the swearing-in ceremony will also highlight the pragmatism of the BJP, as some Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states, including Gujarat, are expected to skip the event due to their busy schedules, notably in relation to state budget presentations.

As the BJP readies itself for a monumental day, all eyes will be on the new Delhi Chief Minister and the future direction of the city under this fresh leadership, following a seismic shift in Delhi’s political landscape.
