No respite from heat in N India; monsoon to hit Kerala on May 31

On Tuesday, an intense heat wave that had been plaguing much of India for the past five days struck, harming people’s health and means of subsistence.

For the next five days, no relief is anticipated in the impacted areas, which include Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and northwest Madhya Pradesh.

Tuesday’s highs of over 45 degrees Celsius affected daily life in large parts of Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, as many people opted to stay inside during the afternoon.

Gujarat was severely affected by the lethal mix of intense heat and humidity in certain areas.

On Tuesday, Sirsa in Haryana recorded a scorching 47.8 degrees Celsius, making it the nation’s hottest location.

MD officials say a тАЬlow pressure areaтАЭ is likely to form over Southwest Bay of Bengal by May 22. тАЬIt is likely to move northeastwards and concentrate into a тАШdepressionтАЩ over central parts of Bay of Bengal by morning of May 24. The IMD has already forecast that the southwest monsoon is on track and will arrive over the Indian mainland in Kerala around May 31.
