NIA agrees to let Engineer Rashid take oath as MP, court to decide tomorrow

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) approved Sheikh Abdul Rashid, also known as Engineer Rashid, a jailed leader of Kashmir, to take the oath of office as an MP on July 5.

EWith extra meetings On Tuesday, Judge Chander Jit Singh will make a decision regarding the plea. In order to take an oath and carry out his parliamentary duties, Rashid, an Independent MP from Baramulla who was detained in a 2017 Jammu and Kashmir terror funding case, filed a request with the court for custody parole or interim bail. A special court in this location had postponed the case until June 22 and requested that the NIA submit its reply.

The attorney for the NIA stated on Monday that Rashid’s oath-taking would be contingent upon a few rules, such as refraining from speaking to the media. He added that Rashid, who is being held in Tihar Jail, needs to finish everything in a single day.

In the case, the NIA had filed a chargesheet against a number of people, including Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin, founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba Hafiz Saeed, and leader of the Kashmiri separatist movement Yasin Malik. Malik entered a guilty plea to the charges in 2022, and the trial court sentenced him to life in prison.
