NEET 2024: Ranking of Six Top Ranked Students to Slip After Withdrawal Of Grace Marks

A noteworthy modification affecting the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) results has been recently announced by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The decision is to take back the grace marks that were first given to 1,563 students. This change will have a significant impact on which students score highest on the test.

According to officials on Thursday, the number of top rankers will drop from 67 to 61 as a result of NTA’s recent decision to revoke the grace marks granted to 1,563 NEET UG candidates. Six candidates from a Haryana exam center shared the top spot among the 1,563 candidates, along with 61 other students.

In the midst of the ongoing NEET UG 2024 controversy, the Center notified the Supreme Court on Thursday that it had taken away the grace marks granted to 1,563 applicants who took the test in order to be admitted to MBBS programs and other related courses.

These candidates can now choose to retake the exam or lose the bonus points that were initially awarded to them in order to make up for the lost time.

Six of the 1,563 candidates were tied for first place with 61 other candidates. According to reports, a senior National Testing Agency (NTA) official stated, “The number of top rankers will now go down from 67 to 61.”
The official stated that these candidates will not be able to reclaim the top spot unless they retake the test and receive a score of 720 out of 720.

“The scores of the 1,563 candidates will now reflect their pre-normalisation scores without any grace marks,” the official clarified in response to a question regarding the effect on the ranks of other candidates. Only after we ascertain the number of candidates who choose to retake the test will we create an updated ranking list.”

The Supreme Court has chosen not to get involved in the requests to stop the NEET UG 2024 counseling process, which is scheduled to start on July 6. It was emphasized that the resolution of pending petitions will determine whether or not successful candidates are admitted to medical colleges and other institutions.

These petitions ask for remedies, like calling off the exam scheduled for May 5 in light of purported leaks of question papers and other anomalies.
