Nayab Singh Saini Set to be New Chief Minister of Haryana as Khattar Resigns

In a significant political development, Haryana’s Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and his cabinet tendered their resignations on Tuesday, paving the way for a new leadership under Nayab Singh Saini, the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Haryana. The swearing-in ceremony for the incoming cabinet is scheduled for 5 pm today, marking a transition in the state’s governance.

The decision to step down comes amidst escalating tensions between the BJP and the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), led by Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala. The rift between the coalition partners deepened following their failure to reach a consensus on seat-sharing arrangements for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Allegedly, JJP sought to contest from Hisar and Bhiwani-Mahendragarh Lok Sabha seats, which led to an impasse in negotiations.

The political landscape further evolved with the departure of Brijendra Singh, the current MP from Hisar, who defected from the BJP to join the Congress on Sunday. This move adds another layer of complexity to the state’s political dynamics.

In parallel, the Indian National Congress has also finalized its electoral strategy, clearing the names of approximately 40 candidates for the impending Lok Sabha polls. Noteworthy among these decisions is the nomination of Nakul Nath, son of former Chief Minister Kamal Nath, who will contest from Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara constituency. Similarly, Ashok Gehlot’s son, Vaibhav Gehlot, has been nominated to run from Jalore in Rajasthan. This strategic maneuvering reflects a generational shift within the party, with senior leaders like Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot opting out of the electoral race to focus on organizational roles.

During a high-level meeting, the Congress leadership deliberated on the allocation of seats, emphasizing key battlegrounds across various states, including Rajasthan, Assam, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. These deliberations underscore the party’s concerted efforts to mount a formidable challenge in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
