Navjot Singh Sidhu Returns to Cricket Commentary Ahead of Lok Sabha Elections

In a surprising move, former cricketer and politician Navjot Singh Sidhu has announced his return to the cricket commentary box, just two months before the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab. The announcement was made by Star Sports on Tuesday, indicating Sidhu’s participation as a commentator for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, commencing on March 22. The official handle of the channel expressed excitement, dubbing Sidhu as the “Sardar of commentary box.”

This decision comes amidst Sidhu’s earlier declaration of abstaining from contesting in the impending Lok Sabha elections, despite the Congress party’s delay in announcing candidates for 13 seats in Punjab. The elections are scheduled for June 1 in the state. Despite not sharing platforms with prominent Punjab Congress figures like Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and Partap Singh Bajwa, Sidhu has maintained political activity by organizing independent events alongside a faction of Congress leaders who remain loyal to him.

Sidhu’s return to cricket commentary marks a significant moment after years of his absence from the field. Apart from his commentary stint, Sidhu has diversified his endeavors, engaging in various roles such as appearing on the popular Kapil Sharma stand-up comedy and talk show, as well as serving as a motivational speaker.

With Sidhu’s re-entry into the cricketing domain, it remains to be seen how his multifaceted engagements will influence the political landscape leading up to the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab.
