Monsoon To Reach Delhi, NCR on June 30: IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the monsoon will arrive in Delhi-NCR around June 30.

IMD officials mentioned, “We had issued a red alert for Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar yesterday, but conditions have improved today. Rainfall activity has been observed in Bihar. For Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi-NCR, we have downgraded the alert to orange, but for West Uttar Pradesh, we have maintained a red alert for the next two days. Additionally, there is a red alert for Uttar Pradesh today. In Delhi-NCR, temperatures are expected to be around 40 degrees Celsius. Monsoon is anticipated to hit Delhi-NCR around June 30. Even today, we can expect dust storms and light rainfall activity in Delhi.” The IMD also forecast that heatwave conditions will persist in many parts of northern India.

“Heatwave to severe heat wave conditions are very likely in many parts of Uttar Pradesh on the 18th and 19th, and in some parts on the 20th over Punjab,” the IMD stated.

The onset of the monsoon in Delhi is expected to start with light rainfall and thunderstorms, which should help reduce the current high temperatures in the national capital. The monsoon season in Delhi typically lasts through July and August, providing much-needed relief from the summer heat.

Furthermore, the IMD reported that since the beginning of the monsoon period on June 1, India has received 20 percent less rainfall than normal, and the total precipitation for the month is also expected to be below average.

The monsoon system, which arrived on the Indian mainland two days earlier than expected and quickly moved through several states, stalled between June 12 and 18, prolonging the wait for north India amid a severe heatwave.

However, weather conditions have now become favorable for the monsoon to advance into parts of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, coastal Andhra Pradesh, northwest Bay of Bengal, Bihar, and Jharkhand over the next three to four days, according to the IMD.
