Modi Rebukes Pakistan for Promoting Terrorism, Lauds Agnipath Scheme at Kargil War Memorial

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a stern address at the Kargil War Memorial, lambasted Pakistan for perpetuating terrorism despite repeated military defeats. He emphasized that Pakistan has failed to learn from its past mistakes, delivering a clear warning that its malicious intentions will never succeed.

Speaking on the 25th anniversary of India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil War, PM Modi paid homage to the fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation. He laid a floral wreath at the War Memorial, commemorating their bravery and dedication.

“The goal of Agneepath is to make the army young… The goal of Agneepath is to keep the army continuously fit for war,” PM Modi stated. He criticized opposition parties for politicizing the Agnipath scheme, which aims to reform and rejuvenate the armed forces. “Unfortunately, some people have made such a sensitive issue related to national security a subject of politics. These are the same people who weakened our army by committing scams worth thousands of crores in the army,” he added.

The prime minister also marked the commencement of the Shinkun La Tunnel Project, executing the first blast virtually. The 4.1-km-long twin-tube tunnel, set to be the highest in the world at an altitude of 15,800 feet, will provide all-weather connectivity to Leh, facilitating swift movement of armed forces and boosting economic and social development in Ladakh.

In a post on X, Modi highlighted the significance of July 26 for every Indian, stating, “We will mark the 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas. It is a day to pay homage to all those who protect our nation. I will visit the Kargil War Memorial and pay tributes to our brave heroes. Work will also commence for the Shinkun La Tunnel Project. This project is important to improve connectivity to Leh, especially during bad weather.”

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also paid tributes to the Kargil bravehearts at the National War Memorial in New Delhi, honoring their indomitable spirit and valor. “Their service and sacrifice will continue to inspire every Indian and our coming generations,” he said in a post on X.

Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi alsi laid a wreath at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass, paying tribute to the soldiers who lost their lives in the 1999 conflict.

On July 26, 1999, the Indian Army announced the successful culmination of “Operation Vijay,” securing victory after a nearly three-month-long battle in the icy heights of Kargil in Ladakh. This day is observed annually as ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ to commemorate India’s triumph and honor the soldiers’ sacrifices.
