    Martin Guptill Quits International Cricket

Martin Guptill, who last represented New Zealand in 2022, has scored over 13,000 runs across all international formats.

“As a young kid, it was always my dream to play for New Zealand, and I feel incredibly lucky and proud to have played 367 games for my country,” Guptill said in a statement to New Zealand Cricket (NZC). “I will forever cherish the memories made wearing the silver fern alongside a great group of guys.”

Guptill, who made his debut for New Zealand in 2009, accumulated 7,436 runs in 198 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 3,531 runs in 122 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). He also played 47 Test matches, scoring 2,586 runs.

A key figure in New Zealand’s back-to-back ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup final appearances in 2015 and 2019, Guptill played a crucial role in their runner-up finish in 2015. That year, in a tournament co-hosted by New Zealand, Guptill was the top scorer with 547 runs, including a stunning 237 off 163 balls against West Indies, which remains the second-highest individual score in ODI history.

In 2021, Guptill was part of the New Zealand squad that reached the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the UAE. His final appearance for the Black Caps was in a T20I against Bangladesh in Christchurch.

With 13,463 runs across formats, Guptill finishes as New Zealand’s fifth-highest run-scorer in men’s cricket, behind Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor, Stephen Fleming, and Brendon McCullum.
