Maoist Couple Surrenders, Had A Bounty Of Rs 41 Lakh On Them

Nangsu Tumreti alias Giridhar, a notorious Maoist with over 170 cases against him and a bounty of ₹25 lakh on his head, surrendered along with his wife in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district on Saturday. The surrender took place in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, according to a police official.

Giridhar’s wife, Sangeeta Usendi alias Lalita, also surrendered. She has 17 cases against her and a bounty of ₹16 lakh on her head, the official added.

Giridhar joined the Etapalli Dalam of the Communist Party of India (Maoist) in 1996 and has been leading the group’s activities in Gadchiroli. “He has 179 cases against him, including 86 related to encounters and 15 of arson,” the official said. “His wife Sangeeta Usendi alias Lalita has 17 cases against her name and a bounty of ₹16 lakh on her head. Under the surrender and rehabilitation scheme, Giridhar will receive ₹15 lakh, and Lalita will receive ₹8.50 lakh from the Central and state governments,” the official added.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis spoke to reporters, stating that the surrender of Giridhar marks a significant blow to the Maoist movement in Gadchiroli. He praised the relentless efforts of the Gadchiroli police to end the Naxal threat and reintegrate militants into mainstream society.
