A software engineer has been booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019, after allegedly giving instant triple talaq to his wife when she refused to sleep with his boss. The shocking incident, which highlights grave instances of harassment and abuse, was reported to the police on December 19.

The 45-year-old man, married to his 28-year-old second wife since January 2023, allegedly began harassing her for money just a few months into their marriage. According to the police, the man pressured his wife to arrange ₹15 lakh from her parents, purportedly to divorce his first wife.

Tensions escalated at a party when the man reportedly asked his wife to get intimate with his boss. When she refused, the situation worsened. He then gave her instant triple talaq, a criminal offense in India since 2019, and forcibly evicted her from their house.

The distraught wife approached the Sambhaji Nagar police station on December 19 to report the abuse. The case was subsequently transferred to the Bazarpeth police station in Kalyan.

Authorities have registered the case under Sections 115(2), 351(2), 351(3), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019.

The victim recounted that her initially happy marriage turned abusive after her husband’s escalating demands for money. Physical abuse followed when she resisted his inappropriate and exploitative demands.
