Maharashtra Declares Holiday on January 22; Centre, Rajasthan, Puducherry to observe half-day

The Maharashtra government has officially declared a public holiday on January 22 to commemorate the consecration of Lord Ram in Ayodhya. In a bid to honor the occasion, schools, colleges, government offices, and industrial establishments will remain closed on that day. Public sector banks and insurance companies in the state will observe a half-day closure until 2:30 PM.

The Central government has also joined in, announcing a half-day holiday for its offices, institutions, and industrial establishments across India on January 22 in observance of the Ram temple ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony.

Following suit, the Rajasthan government has declared a half-day holiday, with all government offices closing until 2 PM on January 22. Puducherry, too, has marked the day as a public holiday, with Chief Minister N Rangasamy stating that state government offices, educational institutions, and undertakings will remain closed.

In an extraordinary move, the Mauritian government has granted a one-off special leave of two hours to public servants of the Hindu faith. This leave, from 1400 hours on January 22, allows them to attend prayers marking the historic inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The Mauritian Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, emphasized the significance of the event, symbolizing the return of Lord Ram to Ayodhya.
