Magistrate Booked for Allegedly Asking 18-yr-old Dalit Gang Rape Survivor to Strip in Rajasthan

In a distressing incident in Rajasthan’s Karauli district, a magistrate has been booked for allegedly demanding a Dalit gang rape survivor to strip and show her injuries. The survivor, an 18-year-old girl, filed a complaint on March 30, stating that the magistrate at the Hindaun court had asked her to remove her clothes under the pretext of examining her injuries.

Deputy SP of the ST-SC cell, Mina Meena, confirmed the incident, stating that the survivor refused to comply with the magistrate’s demand. Following her statement recorded in court on March 30, she lodged a complaint against the magistrate. The case has been registered under section 345 (wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The accused magistrate, however, has not been named in the FIR.

The incident occurred after the survivor was subjected to a brutal gang rape on March 19, with the case being registered at Hindaun Sadar Police Station on March 27. Shockingly, even after undergoing a medical examination as per police protocol, the survivor was allegedly asked to disrobe by the magistrate during her court appearance on March 30.

In her FIR dated March 30, the survivor recounted the magistrate’s demand, stating, “After recording my statement, the magistrate asked me to take off my clothes. He said, ‘I want to see the injury marks on your body.’ I replied, ‘You are a man. I would have shown if there was a female magistrate instead.’ Despite this, the magistrate said, ‘I want to see the injury marks on your body’.”
