Actor and author Lisa Ray has called out Air India for refusing to provide a medical waiver after she had to cancel her 92-year-old father’s flight due to his deteriorating health. Expressing her frustration on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Ray revealed that despite submitting all required medical documents, the airline rejected her request for a waiver. She questioned Air India’s lack of compassion, particularly given her father’s advanced age and fragile condition.
In her post, Ray wrote, “Here we go again @airindia My father is 92, unwell and I have to cancel travel due to his ailing condition. Submitted doctors letter and the waiver was denied? How is that possible? Where is the empathy from an airline that is claiming to care about passengers???”
Following her post, Air India’s official X account responded, prompting Ray to share a screenshot detailing the medical emergency. The image showed that the booking website explicitly stated that no medical waiver was available, despite her father’s hospitalization.
Lisa Ray began her career as a model in the early 1990s before making her acting debut in Hanste Khelte (1994). She gained widespread recognition for her roles in Kasoor, Water, and I Can’t Think Straight. In 2009, she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a rare form of bone marrow cancer. Although she later went into remission, she faced a relapse three years later. Ray chronicled her battle with the illness in her memoir, Close to the Bone, published in 2019.
