Khalistani Extremists Attack Devotees at Brampton Hindu Temple, Prompting Outcry from Canadian Leaders | WATCH

A violent attack on devotees at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton by alleged Khalistani extremists has sparked widespread condemnation from Canadian political leaders. The incident occurred on Sunday as a group of men, reportedly holding Khalistani flags, assaulted worshippers with sticks outside the temple. Videos of the attack have circulated widely on social media, showing the extent of the violence and disturbing scenes outside the place of worship.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned the violence, labeling it “unacceptable” and affirming that such acts will not be tolerated in Canada. Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown also voiced his disapproval, announcing that he plans to propose a motion to the City Council aimed at banning protests at places of worship. “Places of worship should be safe spaces, free from violence and intimidation,” Brown wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. He added that he has directed the City solicitor to assess the legal grounds for such a by-law.

Canadian Member of Parliament Chandra Arya also condemned the incident, describing it as a “crossing of a red line” by Khalistani extremists. He expressed concern over the growing influence of such extremists, saying, “This attack shows how deep and brazen Khalistani violent extremism has become in Canada.” Arya raised additional concerns that the Canadian political and law enforcement sectors may be under the influence of Khalistani sympathizers, though he acknowledged that the claims are yet to be substantiated.

Arya urged Hindu-Canadians to “step up and assert their rights” to ensure the safety of their communities. Meanwhile, Canadian opposition leader Pierre Poilievre also decried the attack, emphasizing that all Canadians deserve to practice their faith in peace.

Peel Regional Police initially categorized the incident as a “protest” but later stated that any violent acts, threats, or vandalism will be subject to investigation. Police have reportedly increased their presence around the temple to prevent any further incidents and to respond swiftly to any unlawful activities.

The assault on the Hindu Sabha Mandir has left Canada’s Hindu community shaken, raising concerns about religious tolerance and the potential for extremist violence in the country. Canadian officials are now grappling with calls for stronger action to prevent such incidents and uphold public safety at places of worship.
