Kejriwal’s Interim Bail Plea Opposed By ED, Says He Lied About Weight Loss

In a video statement released on Friday, Arvind Kejriwal declared that as per the Supreme Court’s directive, he would surrender to be jailed on June 2.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader made false claims about his health, claimed the Enforcement Directorate, which opposed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s application on Saturday for an extension of the interim bail that the Supreme Court granted him last month. The politician’s assertion that he has lost six kg since going to jail was denied by the agency, which detained him on March 21 in relation to the Delhi excise policy case.

Speaking to the nation on Friday, Kejriwal asserted that the abrupt weight loss might be a sign of a serious illness.

Kejriwal had petitioned the Supreme Court to extend his temporary bail. He was free to move the trial court to request regular bail, but the office of the Supreme Court declined to accept his plea. Subsequently, in Delhi’s Rouse House court, the chief minister of Delhi requested regular bail.

The Enforcement Directorate contended in court that the former concealed the purpose of these tests, referring to Kejriwal’s assertion that he required seven days to go through a series of medical tests in order to rule out the possibility of a disease.

Arvind Kejriwal has put on one kilogram, the agency said. It stated that he was traveling across the nation rather than undergoing his medical examinations.

The agency also questioned whether Arvind Kejriwal’s plea to prolong his interim bail could be upheld. It contended that rather than granting him the extension of temporary bail, the Supreme Court had given him the freedom to request regular bail.

Attorney general Tushar Mehta drew attention to the fact that Kejriwal had announced his surrender on Sunday just yesterday.

“Is he taking a chance before surrendering? He is not voluntarily surrendering. We were misled by yesterday’s press conference,” Mehta said.

Mehta said: “There is a mandate of the Supreme Court that you shall surrender on 2nd June. My submission is that only the court can modify this direction, and therefore he approached the Supreme Court first and without declaring the same before this court.”

Kejriwal is the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party AAP and chied minister of Delhi. He was out on bail to campaign for his pollitical party and had said that he will surender on June 2 as per the SC ruling.
