Arvind Kejriwal, chief minister of Delhi, withdrew his appeal against his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money-laundering case involving the “scam” of the Delhi excise policy from the Supreme Court on Friday.
In his capacity as Kejriwal’s representative, Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi informed a Bench presided over by Justice Sanjiv Khanna that the Delhi Chief Minister would withdraw his petition in order to first challenge the ED’s remand request in front of a special court on Thursday afternoon.
Singhvi said Kejriwal would come back to the top court with another petition later.
Kejriwal had moved the Supreme Court late on Thursday night after the ED arrested him.
Earlier, Singhvi mentioned the matter for urgent listing before a Bench headed by CJI D. Y. Chandrachud who CJI asked Singhvi to immediately rush to a Special Bench led by Justice Sanjiv Khanna. But by the time Singhvi-led team of lawyers reached Justice Khanna’s court, the Special Bench had arisen.
Later, Singhvi mentioned it before a two-judge Bench led by Justice Sanjiv Khanna.
