Kejriwal Seeks Extension Of Interim Bail By 7 Days

In relation to the Delhi liquor policy case, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has petitioned the Supreme Court for a seven-day extension on his interim bail. Mr. Kejriwal emphasized the necessity of medical testing, such as a PET-CT scan, after a 7 kg weight loss and increased ketone levels, citing grave health concerns.
The Supreme Court first granted Mr. Kejriwal temporary bail until June 1 in order to allow him to take part in the Lok Sabha election campaign. He must turn himself in and report back to Tihar Jail on June 2 in accordance with the ruling.

The medical staff at Max Hospital has already performed initial assessments. The legal representative for the Chief Minister contended that these examinations are essential to his health and asked the court to take into account the request for an extension of time to finish the required medical examinations.

The BJP leaders have claimed that Mr. Kejriwal received “special treatment” from the Supreme Court in response to the interim bail that was granted to him, which has sparked controversy. The judges who decided to grant the bail, nevertheless, have made it clear that Mr. Kejriwal was not the beneficiary of any special treatment.

The current investigation focuses on purported anomalies in the creation and execution of the Delhi excise policy (2021–22).

Manish Sisodia, an AAP leader and former deputy chief minister of Delhi, is already being held in judicial custody in relation to the matter. The party’s leader, Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh, was arrested by the ED on October 5 and released on bail in April of this year. Mr. Sisodia, the former deputy chief minister of Delhi, was taken into custody by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on February 26 of last year.
