Kangana Ranaut Asks Priyanka To Watch ‘Emergency’; She Responds “Okay Maybe”

Actor turned politician and BJP MP from Mandi Kangana Ranaut revealed on Wednesday that she has invited Wayanad Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to watch her directorial debut, Emergency. It is a film based on the events that occurred during the tenure of Priyanka’s grandmother, Indira Gandhi, as Prime Minister.

When asked if she had any interaction with the Gandhi family regarding her film, Ranaut shared that she happened to accidentally stumble upon Priyanka in the Parliament. Vadra had complimented her on her work and hairdo. In response, Ranaut mentioned her film Emergency and asked Vadra to watch it. She responded with a polite “Okay, maybe.” Ranaut clarified, “No, they didn’t reach out to me, but when I met Priyanka Gandhi, she complimented me. So, I told her about the film and suggested she watch it. She said, ‘Okay, maybe.’ I think if they are open to accepting history, they would appreciate the film.”

Emergency, which is produced by Manikarnika Films, stars Ranaut as the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

The film, slated for release on January 17, has faced months of controversy, including issues with its censor certificate and accusations of misrepresenting the Sikh community. The cast also includes Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade as a young Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, Mahima Choudhary as Pupul Jayakar, and the late Satish Kaushik as Jagjivan Ram.

The film portrays the about 21 months of the Emergency imposed by Gandhi in 1975 after which she faced a political upheaval in the subsequent elections.
