U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris delivered a powerful speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Thursday, sharply criticizing former President Donald Trump and outlining her vision for America’s future. Harris described Trump as an “unserious man” who has empowered extremist elements and warned of the dangers he poses if re-elected.
“This election is one of the most important in the life of our nation,” Harris emphasized. “Just imagine Donald Trump with no guardrails, and how he would use the immense powers of the presidency of the United States—not to improve your life, but to serve the only client he has ever had… himself.”
During her address, Harris highlighted Trump’s actions following his 2020 election defeat, including his alleged role in the January 6th Capitol riot and his ongoing legal issues. She repeatedly mentioned Trump’s “explicit intent” to pardon those who attacked law enforcement during the riot, jail political opponents, and use military force against American citizens. “Consider what he intends to do if we give him power again,” Harris warned.
The Vice President also criticized the controversial “Project 2025” agenda, which she argued would impose severe restrictions on reproductive rights and civil liberties. “As a part of his Project 2025 agenda, Trump and his allies would limit access to birth control, ban medication abortion, and enact a nationwide abortion ban. Simply put, they are out of their minds,” she stated.
Accepting the Democratic nomination for president, Harris pledged to guide America towards a “new way forward” if she defeats Trump in the upcoming election. “On behalf of everyone whose story could only be written in the greatest nation on earth, I accept your nomination to be president of the United States of America,” Harris declared, receiving a standing ovation. “I will be a president who unites us around our highest aspirations.”
Harris appealed to undecided voters, promising to be a “president for all Americans” and emphasizing the opportunity to move beyond the divisiveness of the past. She shared her personal journey as the daughter of a single working mother and her career as a prosecutor, contrasting her commitment to public service with what she described as Trump’s self-serving interests.
The DNC event marked a significant moment for the Democratic Party, as Harris takes the mantle from President Joe Biden amid concerns about his health at 81 years old. As the first Black woman nominee for a major political party, Harris has energized the Democratic base, drawing large crowds and significantly boosting campaign fundraising.
