Jharkhand Minister Alamgir Alam Arrested By ED, Rs 35 Cr Recovered

Days after Rs 35 crore was found hidden in the home of Alamgir Alam’s personal secretary’s domestic assistant, Jharkhand minister was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday in connection with a money laundering case.

After being questioned by the central agency regarding the cash seizure, Alam was taken into custody. The state minister for rural development had told reporters, “I was called today as well, so I have come,” prior to entering the ED office. The ED questioned him for approximately ten hours on Tuesday.

The Congress leader was called by the Enforcement Department (ED) to come to its Ranchi zonal office to give a statement in accordance with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The state’s rural development department is suspected of having committed irregularities, which are the subject of the money laundering investigation.

The ED detained Sanjeev Lal and Jahangir Alam, his housekeeper, on Tuesday, one day after seizing ₹35.23 crore from them.

Following the raids and the subsequent recovery of ₹35.23 crore in cash from their premises in Ranchi, Jharkhand, the ED arrested Sanjiv Lal, PS to Alam, and his domestic helper, Jahangir Alam.

At least seven teams of the agency began the raids at 6 am on the Monday morning. According to the ED officials, the recoveries were mostly made from the house of Jahangir Alam near Ranchi hill in Jharkhand.
